Tamara Renée- The Moon Goddess (official video)

Official video for the title track from singer Tamara Renée's The Moon Goddess album. I fell in love with this young lady's voice while repeatedly listening to the track "Alchemy" (from ShunGu's The Pisces Tape) earlier this year. Directed by Ms Renée herself, the video's intimate, candlelit frames and up-close-and-personal feel matches the tracks deeply spiritual vibe. Respect to Tamara Renée's skill in front of and behind the camera because I cannot stop watching this video.  Enjoy.

Lyric Jones- Listen, C'mon (feat. DMT) (official video) Featured Artist

And here it is! Check out the official video for the track "Listen, C'mon" from Lyric Jones' recently released EP Love's Trail Mix. Now, I could  wax poetic about the visuals and the music, but the folks over at Nu-Soul Magazine did such a great job doing a write-up for the video that I've decided to just  steal from  quote them:

Press play to dig the sounds, and rest in peace to the one and only Chad "Pimp C" Butler.

Curci- Killin em (official video)

Hawk House- Chill Pill (Experiment 2) (official video)

I'm not gonna lie...until a few seconds ago, I knew nothing about the group Hawk House. To add even more honesty to the conversation, I have yet to hear more than one song from the trio. But this "Chill Pill (Experiment 2)" track and it's accompanying video are too dope to sit on while I catch up to the rest of the class. I don't have any reservations when it comes to signing off on these guys as I seriously doubt that this is a one-off piece of goodness amongst a sea of subpar output. This is a really dope video for a really dope track and there's really not much else to say. The single is from Hawk House's upcoming album A Handshake to the Brain, which you can pre-order on iTunes (here) right now.

Dudley Perkins- Me and My Brudda (aka The Cut) (official video)

Watch Dudley Perkins fire up the grill, break out the veggie burgers and vegenaise, and put it down in the kitchen in his new "Me and My Brudda" video. The song (which was originally titled "The Cut") is from Dudley's most recent album, Dr Stokley, which is available now at your favorite music spot.

Aretta Hill- Void (official video) Featured Artist

This has been out for a while now, but for reasons beyond my understanding I'm only just now discovering it. Back in May of last year, singer/songwriter (and fellow Tennessee resident) Aretta Hill made this live-wire video for the title track from her debut album, Void. Making sure to match the song's no-nonsense attitude, Hill takes center-stage with a swagger that's sexy, empowered, playful, and always funky as hell. The track is straight up funky soul music that falls somewhere between old school Millie Jackson and nu-school Amalia. I'm diggin the song. I'm diggin the vibe. I love this video and I love this singer. I may have slept once, but it won't happen again Ms Hill. Respect.

Third Coast Kings- Just Move (official video)

The Detroit deep funk combo Third Coast Kings hits the scene with new music after their heavily acclaimed 2012 self titled debut album. Their new LP is entitled West Grand Boulevard and to help spread the word about it's impending release, the Kings brought some cameras into the studio and shot a video for the single "Just Move". Watch as singer Michelle "The Belle" Camilleri lets the groove take over as the fellas back her up with their signature sound. Enjoy the visuals and make sure to cop that West Grand Boulevard LP when it hits the streets on May 19th!

Scarface- No Problem (official video)

New video from Scarface!  What else is there to say? If that first sentence didn't make you press play, then leave my blog immediately and never come back.

.....I'm dead ass serious.

Ville- Feel It (official video)

All too often young rap artists trying to make a name for themselves are met with resistance from fans my age. The reasons may be varied, but they often stem from the older generation's deep love where hip hop culture has been and our unwillingness to accept where hip hop is going. I'll admit that I'm not the biggest fan of many of today's rap stars, but I certainly try to listen to all music with an open mind. And that willingness to hang up my hang ups really paid off when I checked out the video "Feel It" from Atlanta based lyricist Ville. The 20 year old emcee spits earnest lyrics in the 5 minute video, giving viewers a glimpse into the life of a young man chasing a dream against all odds. Shot with a guerrilla art-type feel, Ville makes his case for deserving a shot while pacing the streets and rooftops of Atlanta. I'm diggin' the video's honest approach and the way the beat ebbs and flows with Ville's lyrics.  Dope work little brother...keep on keeping on.

Siji- Lagos Lullabye (official video)

After going on a bit of a hip hop music bender for the past couple of days, discovering Siji's new video for the track "Lagos Lullabye" yesterday was a nice change of pace. The single (which was featured on the blog last month) is dedicated to the frantic pace and sleepless energy of the city of Lagos, which holds the distinction of being Nigeria's most densely populated city and one of Africa's fastest growing. Enjoy the Scorsese-inspired visuals for the single and get the single, for free, if you haven't already done so.

Ikebe Shakedown- The Offering (official video)

Today (04/15/14) marks the official release of Ikebe Shakedown's new album, Stone By Stone. And while the taxman just took a HUGE bite out of my music-buying loot, I can still afford to enjoy at least one track from the album courtesy of the band's new video for "The Offering". Watch as the fellas bring their high energy, afro-funk sound directly to the people in this 4 minute ode to horn driven, deep funk grooves. And be sure to pick up the album Stone By Stone if you're not too busy scrambling for cash before the taxman cometh.

Supastition- Nothing Like It (official video)

I just finished one hellish 12 hour shift at work. It was one of those "...you know what, I'd rather be broke than deal with this isht" type of nights. So it seems fitting that the first notice in my music feed this morning is for Supastition's new video for the track "Nothing Like It".  Right now I need something to remind me to take time to appreciate the simple blessings in life (like being employed) and that's just what this track is all about. Check out the video and enjoy. And if you haven't done so already, go buy that Honest Living EP. Supastition and producer Croup put together a classic joint that you need to have in your life. Alright, time for sleep. Peace.

Oddisee- Own Appeal (official video)

No doubt you've seen this already, but I still gotta post it. Check out Oddisee's new video for the track "Own Appeal" from his album Tangible Dream. If you like what you're hearing and you still haven't copped the album, you can download the track for free from Mello Music Group via their Bandcamp page(here). Enjoy people!
