Soul Sugar- "Drum Song", "Got 'til it's Gone" & Bon esprit" Rehersal Tracks

Here's something that you may not know about me: I am an avid collector of deep-funk and soul-jazz 45's. If you don't know what those are....well, that's a shame*...but not a requirement to appreciate the music that I'm about to share with you. I recently came across a couple of rehearsal tracks from the band Soul Sugar and decided that it would be a crime to not post them up on the blog. Soul Sugar, a quartet of amazing musicians led by the French keyboardist Guillaume Metenier, continues the time honored tradition of recording the type of greasy, groove-heavy, Hammond B-3 driven funk instrumentals that was showcased by groups like The Meters and Funk, Inc during the 60's and 70's. On these three cuts ("Drum Song", "Bon espirit", and a dope cover of the Janet Jackson track "Got 'Til its Gone") we get a chance to hear the band working on their craft and creating tracks that comes across less like "in-your-face" dance-party starters and more like smoldering scenery music from an unreleased blaxploitation flick. I you like what you hear, make sure you hit up Soul Sugar at one of the links listed below. Dig.
